"The
Memory Thief"
Directed by Gil Kofman
Independent feature film
starring Mark
Webber ("The Hottest State," "Broken
Flowers," "Storytelling"), Rachel Miner ("Black Dahlia,"
"Bully," "Alice") and Jerry Adler ("In Her Shoes," "The
Sopranos," "Manhattan Murder Mystery").
Gil's
description: THE
MEMORY THIEF tells the story of Lukas - an
aimless, haunted young man in contemporary L.A. who buries
thoughts of his own past in the humdrum routine of a
tollbooth clerk. A chance encounter with a Holocaust survivor suddenly
brings into focus a world and an identity he embraces
with frightening intensity - the victimized Jews of
World War II. As he begins to enthusiastically act
out his newfound obsession, Lukas discovers that
survivor's guilt isn't just for the Jews anymore.
Dark
chamber/electronic/jazz score featuring Anthony Burr (bass clarinet),
Karen Waltuch (viola), John Hebert (bass), Dave Shively (vibraphone),
and John Hollenbeck (percussion). I played electronics and
guitar. Composed and recorded over the summer of 2006.
Some tracks from the score are available here.

Digitally
animated re-setting of Cinderella set in a massage parlor in NYC's
Chinatown. Prince Charming, in this case, plays accordion. I

Sundance 2007.
"States of Unbelonging"

"States
of Unbelonging" (2005)
Directed by Lynne Sachs
A "cine-essay on violence in the Middle East." Score features
somewhat of a Tzadik Radical Jewish Culture All-Star lineup:
Jewlia Eisenberg (Charming Hostess), Raz Mesinai (Badawi),
and
Basya Schechter (Pharoah's Daughter). Score was recorded and
mixed completely in my home studio and was extensively edited (not by
me) for the theatrical release.
"Rene and I: From Auschwitz
to America"

"Rene
and I: From Auschwitz to America" (2005)
Directed by Gina Angelone
"Rene and I" is a feature-length documentary about Rene Slotkin and
Irene Hizme, twin siblings who survived Auschwitz and the experiments
of Mengele and were reunited years later in America. The score is a
blend of chamber textures, ambient electronics, and pop music, tracing
their journey from Europe to America.
I wrote the score in October 2004 and recorded it at Brooklyn Recording
(Andy Taub, engineer). It features performances by Okkyung Lee (cello),
Jim Pugliese (percussion), Doug Wieselman (guitar and clarinets), and
myself on piano, accordion, electronics, and percussion.
"Rene and I" will receive its world premiere in the New
York Jewish Film Festival on January 25 (following the
premiere of a new short by Sidney Lumet - an aria from Halevy's La
Juive) and then at the Atlanta
Jewish Film Festival on January 26.

"Rick"
(2003)
Directed by Curtiss Clayton
Written by Daniel Handler
With Bill Pullman, Aaron Stanford, Agnes Bruckner, Sandra Oh
The day
after I finished my Radical Jewish Culture album, I was hunched over a
banjo in my 100 degree room in Brooklyn recording Christmas music- the
demo for my first soundtrack. Against all odds, I got the gig, and the
result is "Rick," starring Bill Pullman, directed by Curtiss Clayton,
music by Ted Reichman. "Rick" is Curtiss's directorial debut, but he
edited such films as "Drugstore Cowboy," "My Own Private Idaho," "To
Die For," and "Buffalo '66."
The
soundtrack is mostly arrangements of X-Mas carols performed by me on
accordion, wurlitzer, tenor banjo, electric guitar, and percussion with
John Hollenbeck on drums and marimba and Andy Taub on bass harmonica.
Andy engineered at Brooklyn Recording.
"Rick"
premiered on September 6, 2003 at the Toronto Film Festival. It is
currently available
on DVD from the Sundance Channel. It should be easy to find
at your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.
